The
IJsselmeer, formally known as the 'Suiderzee' is surrounded
by beautiful villages and towns that are all less then
a full day sailing distance apart.
When walking through a town like Horn or Enkhuizen, you
can feel the history around you from the times of the
'Golden age' when the Dutch VOC vessels ruled the trade
routes to Indonesia and brought back their spices to these
harbours.
The
IJsselmeer is ideal for the recreational sailor as well
as the more experienced one because of the short distances
between the harbours. This enables you to lengthen or
shorten you're your day as you wish.
Some people claim that it is the sail and windsurf Mecca
of Holland, with al the international sailing events that
are being organized there.
